iPad Popular Among IT And Business Professionals

The iPad is loved by consumers, but it’s loved even more by business professionals.

IDG Connect recently conducted a survey that said that 91% of business professionals use an iPad more for business communication than personal communication.

IDG says that their own survey of US consumers found that 60 percent of iPads never leave the home, and 70 percent of usage occurs in the living room.

On the contrary, 51 percent of IT professionals were found to always use their iPad at work. A further 40 percent said that they sometimes use it at work. 79 percent said that they always used their iPads on the move.

Only 54 percent of IT professionals use their...

Researchers test wireless networks for server communication

When data centers are overloaded during peak times, the usual response is to rewire them for more connectivity. Some researchers, however, are looking into another possibility adding wireless networks that can handle excess traffic. A project by Microsoft and the University of Washington tested wireless networks on servers, simulating traffic loads based on four real-life data centers and achieving what they say is a substantial improvement of performance.

The system uses a wireless network on the 60GHz band, which allows for a very fast directional network over short distances. Tiny antennas on top of the server racks direct the signal, which is turned on by a central controller when...

South Carolina Photo ID Law Draws Heated Rhetoric From Republican Presidential …

(Reuters) – The state that fired the first shot in the Civil War is once again battling the US government in a racially charged conflict that is drawing heated rhetoric from Republican presidential candidates.

South Carolina is in a standoff with Democratic President Barack Obamas administration over a new state law that would require residents to produce a photo ID before they could vote. Federal officials say it could disproportionately keep black voters away from the polls.

For South Carolinas Republican leaders – and Republican presidential candidates seeking support in the states primary on January 21 – the Justice Departments move is the latest in a series...

The Law Of Putin’s Jungle

Vladimir Putin is a snake–he says so himself. At his latest four-hour press conference, the Russian prime minister compared himself to Kaa, the huge, hypnotic python from Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. And the growing ranks of protesters against his regime? He called them “monkeys.” As any Jungle Book fan (which includes most Russians) knows, Kaa is “everything that the monkeys feared in the jungle, for none of them knew the limits of his power, none of them could look him in the face, and none had ever come alive out of his hug.” Which leaves little doubt about Putin’s response to the series of protests that have brought 100,000 people into the streets...

‘Balance between scientific and Vedic approach to life needed’

The human kind has to strike a balance between the Vedic approach and the scientific approach to life, said G. Madhavan Nair, former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) at ‘Viveka Bharatam 150 here on Sunday.

The process of observation, analysis and conclusion, whether it is in scientific or in personal form can lead to precise solutions to the problems. Vedic approach leads to peace of mind and soul, scientific pursuit leads to material gains and comforts, he said.

Speaking at the seminar on Practical Vedanta of Swami Vivekananda organised as part of the four-day celebrations of the 150 birth anniversary of the eminent saint, Dr. Nair said the history...

Sharia law compatible with human rights, argues leading barrister

A leading barrister has called for the UK to become more sharia-literate, while arguing that Islamic law can be compatible with the toughest human rights legislation.

Sadakat Kadri told the Guardian that so-called sharia courts, such as the Muslim arbitration tribunal, were good for the community as a whole by putting Sharia on a transparent, public footing and should be more widely accessible to those who want to use them.

Kadri said they played a role in safeguarding human rights: Its very important that they be acknowledged and allowed to exist. So long as theyre voluntary, which is crucial, its in everyones interests these things be transparent and publicly accessible. If you dont...
